DESCRIPTION:\nCeramic Sculpture\n\n\n\nARTIST BIO\n\n\n\nSt. Petersburg-based artist, Shelly Steck Reale, is a contemporary sculptor and photojournalist. Her path is a departure from that of the typical artist. Always questioning, her passion led her into the classrooms and lecture halls of academia – not in the study of art – but in the thoughtful examination of dogma and ideas. \n\n\n\nShe graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Florida with a degree in Philosophy. As a result, her sculptures, photography, and writings reflect the unique quality of what it is to be human. She sees art as owning a unique power to examine and question our cultural, gender, political, and societal norms. Sharing these ideas is what fuels her process in the hope that viewing her work leads one to examine the world in a unique way.\n\n\n\nARTIST STATEMENT\n\n\n\nSometimes words fall short. For me, that’s when visual arts have the profound ability to step in and open viewers up to a gut level perspective previously inaccessible. It is my hope that my work, at its best, illuminates an idea that encourages an examination of views and norms, sparks a new way of thinking, and serves as an impetus for change.\n
