Ceramics and Jewelry
Suzy Pease was born in Springfield, Massachusetts. She obtained her Bachelor of Studio Art from University of Massachusetts, Amherst and received her teaching degree from Westfield State College.
Her work is inspired by marine life. All her pieces are free modeled by hand and constructed with fluidity and balance. She strives to capture the true essence of being using stunning poses that are fun, yet natural, and often majestic. Through the creation of her animated characters, she emphasizes expression, emotion, and movement. Suzy loves to capture a moment in time. She enjoys exploring the state of curiosity, divinity, growth, and natural beauty. Through her creative process, her innovative works exude a dynamic, yet delicate presence; each commanding a unique power of their own.
Suzy began working with clay in 2010 after taking a class at Arizona State University taught by renowned Professor Kurt Weiser. She found fulfillment in being able to create dynamic and powerful pieces that all started from a piece of the Earth. Furthermore, to factor in the ability to “paint” on top of that creation with glaze, and then to manipulate those glazes further by layering and firing at multiple temperatures made the process that much more appealing.
Two women who influence her work are Adrian Arlen, Ellen Jewett and Beth Cavaner. She credits all her life experiences with influencing her work in some way. Her handmade jewelry is completely waterproof and can be worn in the saltwater. Her sculptures are sometimes made with glaze that is not dinnerware safe. All her pieces can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
