ARTIST BIO

Michael Baker specializes in stained glass and mosaic art. Taking inspiration from European cathedrals and castles, he produces stained glass panels in a wide variety of styles. He also fashions kiln-formed glass objects d’art. 

He produces pieces that use the mystical qualities of light as focused through the color and textures of glass to evoke a sense of wonder and whimsy. His use of the Tiffany method allows for intricate glass forms to be incorporated into equally intricate designs. 

Michael’s eye-catching artwork has graced church windows, art galleries, public institutions, and private homes.

Michael resides in St. Petersburg.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Stained glass is very spiritual to me. Light shining through colored pieces of glass is like God’s light shining through us. We see it as beautifully interesting pieces of glass. When the pieces are arranged and assembled into recognizable forms, we see an image or an idea that evokes a spiritual response in our innermost selves.

The palette of colors, patterns, and textures of glass available through modern production processes provides unlimited creative possibilities. I endeavor to combine these materials with traditional and innovative techniques to produce art pieces which reach into the depths of the human soul and speak to the spiritual in all of us.
