Meet Rebecca Zweibel
Rebecca Zweibel began her clay work in Colorado, continued in the Washington, D.C. area, and is now in St. Petersburg. Rebecca was initially drawn to porcelain’s pristine, bone-like look. She switched to earthenware and hand building to satisfy her love of color and drawing. She often uses Earthen Red from Highwater Clays, for its wide firing range, and employs underglaze-colored terra sigillata as a base that emphasizes the dark lines of sgraffito. Her favorite mark-making tool is a sewing needle held in a mechanical pencil. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards including John Eckert Memorial Award for Clay, and First Place Florida CraftArt Members’ Show, selected for the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota Creators and Collectors Show, and featured in Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated March/April 2018 cover and article.
