Saturday, March 16, 1:00-3:00pm
Participants will write a one-page ekphrastic story or poem inspired by Florida CraftArts exhibition, Quest: A Celebration of Glass. THIS CLASS WILL MEET AT FLORIDA CRAFTART to view the pieces on display.
We will write stories and poems using Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” as the foundation for our writing.
You will pick the piece that most inspires you (no two writers will write about the same piece) and after viewing the work, we will go to a classroom above the gallery to flesh out our thoughts/writing. Participants will then perform their work during the 5th Annual SunLit Festival on Saturday, April 13 (2-4 p.m.) at Florida CraftArt.
About the Instructor:
Maureen McDole was born in St. Petersburg. She is a direct descendant of carnies, carpenters and fishermen. This do-it-yourself ethos in her DNA infuses every area of her life. As far back as she can remember she loved to write. Her first book of poems, Exploring My Options, was published in 2006. This was the first title from Summerfolk Press, which she founded with Gabriel Garling. In December 2008, Maureen graduated from USF-St. Petersburg with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Her second poetry book, Longing for the Deep End, was released in December 2011. Maureen is currently working on her third collection of poems. In 2013 she graduated from the National Speakers Associations Speakers Academy. She is the recipient of St. Petersburg Art Alliances 2016 MUSE Award for Literary Arts. Maureen has been leading workshops and speaking about creativity for over 15 years. She founded Keep St. Pete Lit because she believes wholeheartedly in the power of literature to change the world.
