The initial creation of the Crochet Coral Reef began in Fall 2011 when Florida CraftArt hosted small groups of crochet lessons at various locations including libraries, colleges, private homes, schools and in the Florida CraftArt classroom on the second floor. Mini-exhibits around town helped spark interest in the project and soon people from all around the state, country and even in other countries began creating coral pieces. Although the actual number of pieces is unknown, estimates put it in the thousands!
