Crealdé School of Art, a nonprofit art organization located in Winter Park, will be featuring distinguished Florida fine craft artists in two simultaneous exhibitions. They will be on display until January 11, 2020.
The first opening reception, for Collecting for Half a Century: Fine Craft from the Florida CraftArt Permanent Collection exhibition will be held Friday, September 20, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Crealdé School of Art’s main campus. The Hannibal Square Heritage Center, a program of Crealdé School of Art in historic Downtown Winter Park, will exhibit Soul Utterings: Creative works by Kianga Jinaki and John Mascoll. Featuring two prominent African American artists and members of Florida CraftArt, this second opening reception will be held 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This will be the first time the collection, located in St. Petersburg, Florida, will be exhibiting offsite. Florida CraftArt, a statewide nonprofit organization, hopes it will bring more awareness about different forms of fine craft across the state.
“Crealdé’s exhibition of Florida CraftArt’s Permanent Collection of Fine Craft will offer the Winter Park and surrounding communities the opportunity to see art by many of the artists whose work has been influential in the state of Florida’s artistic growth,” said Florida CraftArt Executive Director Katie Deits.
The goals of the collection are to recognize the cultural significance of Florida’s fine craft art in our broad artistic landscape, document the rich tradition of craft art throughout Florida and beyond, and to educate and inspire future generations of craft artists and arts appreciators.
The exhibition at Crealdé School of Art will consist of works by distinguished Florida craft artists including John Eckert, Christine Federighi, Bill Ives, Ray Ferguson, Bob Kopec, Tim Ludwig, Laura Militzer-Bryant, Bonnie Seeman, Barbara Sorenson and Crealdé’s Ceramics Studio and Program Manager Vince Sansone.
FCA members are invited to the opening. Please let Rhonda Sanborn know if you would like to come to it. [email protected]
